The republican landscape reserve "Naliboksky" is located in the west of Belarus, 65 km from Minsk and covers an area of 86 892 hectares, being one of the largest reserves in the country.
Forests are the dominant type of ecosystems in the reserve. They account for 89.9% of the territory. Agricultural land occupies about 10%. Anthropogenic, urbanized and industrial territories occupy about 0.1%.
917 plant species are registered on the territory of the reserve. The territory of the reserve belongs to the Neman floristic region and is located in its right-bank subregion, the flora of which numbers 955 species. The representativeness of the flora of the reserve in relation to this floristic subdivision is very high and amounts to about 96%.

Floristic studies of the territory of the reserve showed that almost a quarter of the plants growing here are medicinal, a significant number of various systematic categories are included in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus. You should also pay attention to the fact that significant areas of the Pushcha are covered with berries, which have economic and operational potential.

The fauna of the reserve is represented by all 6 classes of vertebrates living in Belarus: cyclostomes, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals. The territory of the Pushcha is officially called the Territory important for birds. Within the boundaries of the reserve, 51 species of animals have been established from among those listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus. In addition, on its territory, the habitat of a number of species of animals and birds listed in the Red Book of Europe, as well as those of Pan-European Conservation Significance, is registered.
The above facts indicate a good degree of preservation of the natural conditions of the territory from anthropogenic impact, as well as the uniqueness, high ecological and nature conservation role of the Naliboksky reserve.
Besides natural diversity, Pushcha has a rich history and culture. A large partisan formation functioned on the territory of Nalibokskaya Pushcha during the Great Patriotic War. The total number of partisans in this area exceeded 20 thousand. There was also a separate Jewish partisan detachment of over 3000 people. The most famous partisan in Nalibokskaya Pushcha was the people's writer of the Republic of Belarus Yanka Bryl.

In addition, in the adjacent territories there are archaeological and architectural monuments that are included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus. So, for example, in g.p. Ivenets is the Alekseevsky Church, founded in 1905. Not far from the Pushcha is the family estate of the Dzerzhinsky family, and in the village of Dzerzhinovo there is a museum-estate of Felix Dzerzhinsky.

Natural conditions of the republican landscape reserve "Naliboksky" are very diverse. Many rivers and reservoirs, mild climate create favorable conditions for the development of various forest, meadow and marsh vegetation in combination with many representatives of the fauna.

Landscapes and soils

Located on the Neman lowland, the territory of the Pushcha is limited in the north by the Oshmyanskaya ridge, in the east - by the Minsk Upland and in the west - by the Lida plain. The most boggy is the northern part of the massif, adjacent to the Oshmyanskaya ridge (near the Berezina, Isloch, Volka rivers), as well as the southern part of the lower course of the Usa River.

In accordance with the soil-geographical zoning, the territory is assigned to the Mostovsky region of sandy soils developing on water-glacial and ancient aluvial sands. According to the type of soil formation, the territory belongs to the soddy-podzolic zone, where podzol-forming and bog processes dominate, which, due to the nature of moisture and the type of vegetation, contribute to the development of soil of varying degrees of landslide and swampiness.

The most common are soddy - podzolic, weakly and moderately podzolized sandy and sandy loam soils, underlain by moraine and, less often, different-grained, sometimes gravelly sands. Sod-podzolic gley soils, which are occupied mainly by unproductive hayfields and pastures, prevail in low places. In the floodplains of rivers and streams, humus-gley and peat-bog soils are usually formed, which are occupied in most cases by either low-quality sedge meadows and forb-sedge meadows, or hazel and willow forests.

Climate

Within the limits of the reserve there are rather warm summers and moderately cold winters. The average temperature of the warmest month (July) is + 17.5 ° C, and the coldest month (January) is -6.6 ° C. The average annual temperature is + 5.5 ° C. In some years the air temperature differs from the long-term average. So, the absolute maximum is + 35 ° С, and the absolute minimum is -38 ° С. The growing season lasts about 185-195 days.

During this period, most of the annual precipitation falls - about 400 mm, and in the cold period - about 250 mm. Early autumn frosts are possible in early October, and late spring frosts in the first and second decades of May. A stable snow cover usually forms in the first decade of December. The average height of the snow cover is 25-30 cm, and the depth of soil freezing under the snow is 50-60 cm. The soil is freed from the snow cover in the first ten days of April.

Hydrology and hydrography

Both in the republic as a whole, and on the territory of the Republican landscape reserve "Naliboksky", the main reclamation works were carried out in 1969-1977. The total area of drained land was about 20 thousand hectares. The total length of the drainage network was 993 km, including 158 km of main canals.

At the moment, about 90% of the drainage network requires repair and restoration. In general, analyzing the land reclamation carried out, it should be noted that it did not fully fulfill its purpose due to the untimely work carried out and the restoration of the network due to the lack of funds. In addition, a significant number of drainage and main canals were colonized by beavers as a result. As a result, part of the drained areas was flooded and withdrawn from economic circulation due to the transport inaccessibility of the territory.

Watercourses and reservoirs

The largest watercourses of the reserve are the rivers Zapadnaya Dvina, Usa, Isloch and their main tributaries - Volma, Volka, Sivichanka, Izled. In addition to them, there is a Kroman lake on the territory of the reserve.

The forest cover of the catchment area is about 19%, pine and mixed, in places swampy forests prevail, boggy 9%.

These watercourses are characterized by a small diversity of ichthyofauna: the number of fish species varies from 7-8 to 14, but they are important for the conservation of biodiversity of the fauna of Belarus, since they are spawning-age grounds for brook trout and European grayling, species included in the Red Book.

Lake Crooman

It belongs to the number of medium-deep water bodies, the maximum depth is 26.5 m, the average is 13.2 m. The basin is of karst origin, oval in shape, slightly elongated from northwest to southeast by 1.4 km, maximum width is 1.12 km, with average 0.65 km. The slopes of the basin are low, up to 5 m high, gentle, covered with a pine forest, in the north-west they are swampy in places, in the north-east and south-east, in the area of the confluence of the Blueshka River, they are not expressed and are occupied by swampy floodplains and meadows.

The shores of the lake are steep almost along the entire length, 0.3 - 0.5 m in height, at the confluence of streams are low, swampy, overgrown with wetland vegetation and bushes. On a limited extent, there are low sandy shores, up to 0.1 m high. The coastline is smooth, practically not cut off (cutoff factor 1.01), only in the northeast it forms a small bay, which deepens into the land to a depth of 150 m with a maximum width 100m.
The lake is low-flowing, the Blueska river flows into it, one shallow channel. The river Kromanka flows out. The catchment area of the lake has been greatly changed as a result of reclamation works. The area, including the reclamation network in the Blueshki basin, is 124.1 km2, 60% is covered by forests, 1.5% under swamps.
The presence of a unique natural, historical and cultural background, the presence of unique tourist sites, makes it possible to develop almost any type of tourism on the territory of the reserve. Currently, one of the most intensively visited water, hiking and cycling tourist routes pass through the territory of the Pushcha.
Naliboki is a whole “country in the country”, equal in area to Luxembourg, and incomparable and unique in the originality of nature, richness of myths and historical and cultural images.
